John Joe's Bar and Lounge (Teach John Joe) in Kilcar County Donegal has been a family run business since 1929 when his own father, John, bought it. After John Joe started running the Pub in the mid- 1960's, he took a brave step by having live music at the weekends. The music tastes catered for in John Joes at present cover a wide spectrum, from traditional to folk, from country to rock, and in music terms, it is not only live music but lively disco's as well. In the provision of entertainment, John Joe's has had some famous names including: James Byrne, Dermot O'Leary and The Bards, Richie Kavanagh, Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh and Dermot Byrne of Altan, Brush Shiels, Joe Burke, Sean Mc Guire. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere in John Joe’s has encouraged spontaneous music sessions from local musicians and singers, and an open invitation to visiting entertainers to join in and enhance the fun-filled atmosphere. John Joe's also facilitates anyone who wants to play games of pool and darts. Finals of the local championship have been held in the spacious lounge. Service in John Joe’s is family-friendly and speedy, with a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, but John Joes own personal favorite speciality is his irish coffee, be sure and try it out!!
