Description
A more than 100 year old pub with great food and great music. Music plays a big role in this pub: traditional sessions take place regularly with local and traveling musicians joining in; in summer, we organise free gigs outside with contemporary artists.
The Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna has been in the Curtin family since 1893 making it one of the oldest pubs in the Burren area. The current proprietor is Peter Curtin who continues the high standards of hospitality and service set by his grandparents Christopher and Nora, and parents John and Mary.
Its famously laid-back atmosphere and guaranteed craic makes it as attractive to visitors as it is to the locals.
It has a particular draw for the musicians of the region. The Roadside Tavern has been a legendary venue for traditional music for well over a 100 years. Many well known names have entertained the patrons of the Roadside down through the years to the present. They include Christy Moore, Davy Spillane, Tommy Peoples, the Fureys, Seán Tyrrell, Christy Barry, Micko Russel, Mickaleen Conlon, Paul Dooley, Sharon Shannon and many more.
The Roadside Tavern serves the finest of Stouts, Ales, Wines and Spirits. The award-winning food menu is filled with delicious dishes such as traditional Irish bacon, Cabbage and Parsley sauce and a slightly less traditional rendition of Irish stew (featuring local Burren beef in place of the more typical lamb). Pride of place is given to dishes featuring Smoked Salmon from the family's award-winning Burren Smokehouse. The Burren Smokehouse is literally over the bridge and well worth a visit.
