Description
Taaffes, Bustling and friendly, this 150 year old cheery village pub is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. As you pass by its stone facade you can hear traditional Irish music passing through the windows. Plenty of comfortable walled seating and dark green walls gives it a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.
The bustling bar is packed most evenings and is well known for its atmosphere and traditional Irish music which has been playing here for over 20 years. Anyone is welcome to come along and listen and play (if you can) and there's no cover charge. Sharron Shannon, Delores Keane, Matt Keane and Frankie Gavin have performed here, as well as a number of wandering minstrels and local musicians.
Famous for being a GAA pub, Taaffes is also reputed to sell the best pint of Guinness in the city, and it doesn't disappoint. Good quality bar food is served all day with generous keenly-priced portions
During the warmer months Taaffes has outdoor seating at the front of the bar and punters can sit, relax and watch the world go by on busy Shop Street. There is also a smoking area to the rear of the pub. Being a GAA pub, Taaffes is the ideal place to catch all the televised Gaelic football and Hurling matches. Soccer, Rugby, Golf and a range of other sports are shown in the bar on a daily basis.
