Description
The Glenmalure Lodge is situated in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains (the Garden of Ireland) in the longest glacial valley in these islands, making it a perfect holiday destination for those who want to explore some of Ireland's most ruggedly beautiful countryside.
A friendly and family run lodge, offers a cosy pub atmosphere, timber floors, lots of old memorabilia which pay homage to the area's rich and colourful history, open fires and great local food with plenty of good comfortable seating, all adding to its interesting character and olde worlde charm.
The Glenmalure Lodge was established in 1801 making it one of the country's oldest coaching inns. It was first known as "Wiseman's Inn". It later became a hunting lodge for Lord Meath, the ideal location for him to relax with his friends in a haven of peace and tranquility.
Of course Glenmalure was not always such a peaceful place, being a natural defensive stronghold down the centuries. Fiach McHugh O'Byrne and Michael Dwyer are two elusive rebels whose names are also synonymous with the valley.
The Glanmalure Lodge has fifteen ensuite bedrooms, tastefully refurbished with olde worlde charm. We take pride in our reputation for personal hospitality reminiscent of what was once offered to guests of Ireland's fine contemporary houses.
The Lodge offers fully licensed bars with turf fires to welcome the weary travellers of the famous Wicklow Way walking route, which passes by our door.
There are traditional music sessions in the bars on a regular basis, but impromptu sessions are likely to break out at any time, so bring your instruments or your voice.
Our Dining Room can cater for up to 40 guests which can be transformed for any occasion, a christening, communion or confirmation, we are happy to assist in the planning and menu selection. Menus are also available for Dinner, Weddings or Christmas Parties.
